Our History

Our family farm has been part of the life of Point Lonsdale since the late 19th Century.

William Edward Longuehaye (1829-1907), a retired Bank Manager, built a colonial cottage for his wife Susannah and two adult daughters, on top of the hill by the sea, not far from where Lon Retreat stands today.

William was the great, great Grandfather of Susan Hanley whose family are the current owners. Claire Gemes, your host, is sixth generation of our family working on the farm.

A second home was soon added for grandson Warwick and his wife Susan and the farm expanded to 360 acres of farm fields, coastal scrub and wetlands running along the southern coastline and around Lake Victoria to present day Emily Street.

The farm, worked by our family for over 100 years spanning seven generations is a wonderful source of food, productive work, nature inspired restoration, knowledge, recreation, healing and peace. Luxury guest accommodation was built in 1997 and redeveloped in 2017/18 as Lon Retreat & Spa for you to share the peace and bounty of our farm.
